Energy to "Enlighten"

Phaesun GmbH - derived from Phaëthon (see box at left) is structured as a service and trading company for the management of the supply chain and the provision of tailored photovoltaic (solar electric) solutions to its Associated Companies and third party customers. The head office is in Memmingen, Germany. The unique strength of Phaesun is the alliance of its individual Associates. They consist of individuals running their own businesses inside and outside Europe, with photovoltaic (solar electric) solutions at their core. Phaesun Asmara is one of the five Associates of Phaesun, based in Asmara, Eritrea. The other Associates run their businesses from Sudan,  Greece and Germany.  Phaesun Asmara is owned and managed by Francis Hillman and his wife Almaz Tecle. Francis Hillman was for 10 years managing successful BP Solar operations in East & Southern Africa before moving to Eritrea to start up a new comprehensive service for the local and East African market.

Phaesun’s objective is to promote the use of pv applications and to assist in making them commercially viable. Despite the need to be profitable, Phaesun’s motives are ethical in that Phaesun aims to promote sustainable development particularly in developing countries through the use of environmentally friendly and tailored photovoltaic solutions. The main focus here is on small-scale projects providing sufficient electricity for individual families or rural communities.

Phaesun differentiates its products and services through quality and the provision of tailored solutions for the specific needs of the end users. Quality is determined by the specific requirements of the end-users and not by the perceived quality of the large scale manufacturers. This is addressed through the packaging of systems using components which are proven for the environment in which the systems are to be operated. The continuous experience of the Associates in the field of photovoltaic applications and their expertise will ensure this core competence of Phaesun.
