OTHER SOLAR APPLICATIONS

Photovoltaics (Solar Electric Energy) can be used to enable rural communities to enjoy improved infrastructure in the water, health, education and telecommunication sectors. A brief overview is given here of each sector, contact us using the contact or order page for more information on your requirements.

WATER SUPPLY

Solar water pumps are capable of lifting water from depths up to 300 metres. The quantity of water pumped in a day depends on several variables including pumping head, solar insolation and size of solar array. Pumping systems can be as small as a single module (50W) system pumping 2m3 per day to 20m head or as large as a 72 module (6kW) system pumping 40m3 per day to 100m head. System costs vary similarly from under US$1,000 to over US$50,000.

HEALTH

In the health sector, photovoltaic systems are used to power vaccine refrigerators for  EPI programmes, lighting for hospital wards, power for laboratory equipment amongst other things. Complete systems can be designed according to specific requirements. (NB. Domestic refrigerator systems are also available)

EDUCATION

Remote schools can benefit from photovoltaic systems to power lighting for dormitories or night time study, power for a computer lab, power for educational or Worldspace radio programmes or power for educational television programmes. All of these applications can have a significant impact on the quality of education offered and well-being of the students.

TELECOMMUNICATION

Power for remote communication sites such as a VHF/HF radio, a VSAT or WLL terminal or a large microwave or mobile phone repeater. All of these applications are commonly powered by photovoltaic energy which is ideally suited to remote locations where low maintenance is essential.
