Imagine installing a water pump with over twenty years of fuel supply !

That is what solar pumping systems are – a highly reliable stainless steel Grundfos submersible pump powered directly from the sun’s energy. So long as adequate light falls on the solar array it will turn the pump motor and pump water.

There is no better way to make a responsible, environmentally friendly, sustainable investment in a community than to install a solar powered water pump.

The capabilities of solar powered pumps have increased dramatically in recent years. They are now able to pump to heads of up to 300 meters and power conventional three phase pumps.

The choice of correct pump depends upon the amount of water required each day and to what head this water must be pumped. Daily water quantities range from 2 to 350m3 at 15m head and 3 to 150m3 at 50m head.

As the range of pump possibilities is large, so is the range of system prices. These range from Euro 1,000 to Euro 65,000 per complete system.

Life cycle costing of pumps over 20 years shows that in typical Eritrean situations the cost of water pumped using solar energy is 35% lower than that using diesel power.
