"Green Power" for Romani

Project Description

Together with the students initiative SIFE from the University of Regensburg, Phaesun have accomplished the "Green Power" project to support the Romani population in Romania. Therefore PicoPV systems for off-grid power supply were provided to 30 households in the villages Rosia, Nou and Daia in Transylvania.

Why was PV selected?

The Romani population is often excluded from services to the public and settlements are often not on the national grid. PicoPV systems offer a reliable electrical illumination and provide the possibility to load mobile phones and other small electrical applications.

Special challenges

The Romani population often relies on traditional lighting modes such as kerosene lamps and candles. Due to discrimination, social problems and high unemployment rates income of many families is low.
PicoPV-systems for the efficient supply of small loads offer a good chance for households to cover the basic electricity needs on a local basis and can be extended according to the users? requirements.
Charging stations that rent lamps and offer charging services for lamps and mobile phones are established at local grocery shops to provide electric light to even more households.
