Tunisian farmers start using solar milk cooling systems
The project partners of University Hohenheim, Phaesun, Tunisian
partner organisations and the project coordinator ICARDA have
installed 10 solar driven milk cooling systems at farms around the
city of Sidi Bouzid in April.
The milk in this region is normally collected twice a day from the
farms with a milk collection truck. For the transport conventional
milk cans are normally used and the transport can take more than
three hours. Especially in summer times there is a high risk of the
development of bacteria, that causes loss of income.
With the solar milk cooling systems every farmer can now cool 60 to
120 liters of milk per day. The systems are based on the Steca PF
166 DC refrigeration box in combination with an adaptive control
panel, so that ice blocks can be produced during sunshine hours. The
systems are served by a 600 W solar generator and two small
batteries. The milk cooling takes place directly after the milking
process and during the transport in special milk cans. The milk cans
have two walls, so that they are well insulated and the ice blocks
can be integrated for cooling. Furthermore the cooling of the "evening
milk" is possible over night at the farm for up to 12 hours. After
the R&D phase that took place in 2015 at University Hohenheim, the
systems are now being tested under real field conditions concerning
the improvement of milk quality and acceptance in Tunisia until end
of 2017. Please find pictures of the installation works on the

15 Years phaesunized!
Episode 2009: Online into the future!
It was 15 years ago that the cornerstone for Phaesun was laid in
Memmingen in the Allgäu. We use this anniversary year to tell about
the Phaesun background and history episode by episode!
With the Phaesun Online Order Platform Phaesun opens the first
B-to-B-Onlineshop for solar components in 2009. With this shop
product descriptions, data sheets and pictures of more than 3000
Off-Grid products are available online. Registered users can
purchase directly via the Online Order Platform. Furthermore Phaesun
is continuously extending its product portfolio to focus on even
more target areas beside the topic of rural electrification. An
important target group that is coming up are traders of the leisure
market: solar products for power supply of caravans, mobile homes,
boats or camping holidays. The first cooperation with European
traders in this sector are growing! Please find pictures of the
episode 2009 on the
Phaesun Facebook
page here.
